My work place

My work place / composers "hut" since 2020, situated on a farm in Stange, Norway. Nearby the farm is a small forest "island" in between the surrounding fields where sculptures made by sculptor and stone artist Knut Wold are displayed. On warm summer days I sometimes bring my bass outdoors to practice.

*Maybe*, from time to time, I will announce some of these outdoors sessions as pop-up concerts. Either playing solo, or perhaps invite other musicians to join. Stay tuned for more info!

THE BIOPHONIC ORCHESTRA
Being close to nature has always been important to the double bass player SIGURD HOLE. Now he puts ecological questions fully in the center with a septet.

BY MATTHIAS HARTMANN

Reflections in light

REFLECTIONS IN LIGHT is a cycle of works for different ensembles ranging from solo double bass to six musicians composed especially, but not exclusively, for performances inside the vast sonic and visual reverb of the glass and metal prism-shaped structure encapsulating the medieval church ruins at Domkirkeodden in Hamar, Norway.

About

Sigurd Hole is a Norwegian composer and musician (double bass), focusing his work on the dialogue between composition and improvisation in a musical landscape where other sounds besides those of musical instruments and humans may occur as vital parts of the music itself. This results in a unique musical world that more and more people are turning their ears towards, both at home and abroad. His music recently found its way to Carnegie Hall, and he has received strong reviews both for his solo and ensemble albums in media such as the The New York Times, DownBeat and BBC3.
