Haiking i Nevada

These flattened figures are rendered as pale silhouettes against slab-like fields of ochre, rust and blue, after how I imagine the desert when I read Hunter S. Thompson. 

I use a palette-knife throughout, for texture and I use the raw canvas weave to give the scattered road-sign sun and trudging travellers a worn, sun-bleached quality to add to a fairly vintage-looking and dream-like vibe to the image. 

In the figurative post-war abstraction tradition.
